These were the questions posed by Birgit Wiederstein in Göttlesbrunn and Heidi, Johannes & Georg Schröck in Rust. The two wine regions, Rust and Göttlesbrunn, are connected by the Bernsteinstraße, one of the major trade routes of antiquity. The four winemakers have been friends for many years, often discussing viticulture during their meetings. They are particularly fascinated by the old Hungarian grape variety Hárslevelü. How much does the variety convey its origin — the soil it grows on, the climate it thrives in? How much does the winemaker’s skill and experience influence the wine?
The plan was quickly made: the hand harvest took place on the same day in Rust and Göttlesbrunn. One crate (approx. 400 kg) traveled from Göttlesbrunn to Rust, and one crate from Rust to Göttlesbrunn. After a short maceration, the grapes were pressed, fermented spontaneously in barrels, and almost simultaneously bottled in spring 2025.
The four bottles invite you to explore the themes of grape variety, vintage, origin and terroir, as well as the individual vinification style of the winemakers.
The poker motif — because playfulness is key to this project — inspired the label design.
